The first annual BAMA Poker Tournament was a great first event.
First: It was well run with Jeff Joseph controlling the action, and the set-up was superb. A large, spacious room with a few steps to the "outdoor smoking lounge", and a few steps the other way to the well stocked beer and snack area. Food was good, and plentiful. Bathrooms were clean, large with multiple facilities.
The event only had 17 competitors, and the money broke down to $1000, 500, 200. But, it was an interesting, and diverse group with 6 players driving up from Erie, PA. Lots of styles of play from passive, tight play, to over aggressive bluffers.
The final table included Jeff Joseph, Jeff Bartkowiak, Jim Evans, Bill Adams, Ron Tebo, Bill George, MaryJo Sheffler, Rich W, John Barton.
Mary Jo took top female. John Barton was the bubble, taking 5th.
Top 4 came down to Ron, Jim, Bill A., and Bill G. A split was offered and refused a few times by the host, who later relented. The payout was approximately 625 going to Jim Evans, 525 to Ron T, 305 to Bill A, and 225 to Bill George. But play continued on for the magnificent first place trophy.
Jim E made a major mistake when the hours wore him down. He believed his hole cards were ace seven giving him a set, but he actually had A9. Crippled by Ron T, he made major pushes the next few hands. Jim E got all his money in with A3, Bill A quickly called with AJ, short stacked Bill G got his money in with 56 suited in hearts. Two hearts showed on the flop with straight possibilities, but AJ held up.
Heads up lasted a dozen hands with Ron T's aggressive action countered by Bill A picking his spots. Bill Adams took his own first place trophy, and Ron T walked out with a solid payday and nice trophy.
